Sav-Rx Data Breach Exposes 2.8 Million To Identity Theft Featured
Pharmacy benefit management company Sav-Rx suffered a cyberattack and data breach in October 2023
A&A Services d/b/a/ Sav-Rx, a Nebraska-based pharmacy benefit management company, alerted 2.8 million individuals of a data breach that occurred in October 2023.
Although Sav-Rx identified the disruption on its computer network in October 2023, it was not until April 30, 2024 that it received the results of its investigation and notified health plan customers.
What Happened?
On April 30 2024, Sav-Rx announced that on or about October 8, 2023, the company detected a network disruption within its computer network prompting it to secure it’s network and launch an investigation.
According to the Data Breach Notification submitted to Maine Attorney General, the investigation, completed on April 30, 2024, confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access “certain non-clinical systems” on October 8, 2023 and obtained files that contained patient health and personal identifying information. On May 24, 2024, Sav-Rx sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
What Information Was Stolen?
The affected information included –
- names,
- dates of birth,
- email addresses,
- phone numbers,
- Social Security numbers,
- eligibility data,
- insurance identification numbers and
- addresses.
What is Sav-Rx Doing To Protect My Identity?
Sav-Rx said that it has since implemented several mitigation measures and enhanced select features, including multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, Linux system hardening, and enhanced geo-blocking.
The Company is offering complimentary access to 24 months of credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services.
