Datamaxx Applied Technologies Data Breach Compromises Identites of 61k People Featured
DataMaxx’s failure to adequately secure network according to FTC guidelines enabled cyberattack that exposed personal identifying information.
A class action lawsuit was recently filed against Datamaxx Applied Technologies Inc. (“Datamax”) after it filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine on November 25, 2024. According to the notice an eleven month investigation into the breach concluded that files on its network were subject to unauthorized access during a three week period in December 2023. The investigation confirmed that confidential consumer information was obtained in the breach.

What Happened?
According to the Notice of Data Breach letter, on December 17, 2023 Datamaxx experienced a network disruption and immediately began an investigation into the matter. Datamaxx hired independent cybersecurity experts to assit with the investigation. Datamaxx determined that certain files may have been accessed or acquired without authorization between December 1 and December 17, 2023. Datamaxx undertook a comprehensive review of these files, and, on or about November 12, 2024, learned that certain files contained personal information that can be used by threat actors to compromise the identify of affected individuals.
What Information was Stolen?
The information stolen during the breach includes –
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Medical Information
Upon completing its investigation, Datamaxx began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the breach.
What is Datamaxx Doing To Protect My Identity?
According to the November 25th 2024 notice being mailed to affected customers, after the incident, Datamaxx implimented measures to enhance security and minimize the risk of a similar incident occurring in the future but did not elaborate on specific measures undertaken.
In addition to these measures, Datamaxx are offering identity theft protection services for 12 months through IDX.
