AMN Healthcare Class Action Alleges Travel Nurse Pay Cuts During Assignments Featured

AMN Healthcare class action involving travel nurse pay cuts

Travel nurses and healthcare workers may have claims if AMN Healthcare reduced their promised compensation before an assignment ended.

A new AMN Healthcare class action alleges that some travel nurses and healthcare professionals had their compensation reduced after they accepted and began fixed-term assignments. Travel nurses may relocate, secure temporary housing and give up other employment opportunities based on the compensation promised for an assignment.

Now, a class action lawsuit has been filed alleging that AMN Healthcare reduced the compensation of some healthcare workers after they had already accepted and begun their assignments.

The allegations could be important for travel nurses and other healthcare professionals who worked through AMN Healthcare and experienced a reduction in their pay, guaranteed hours, stipends or overall compensation before their agreed assignment ended.

How AMN Healthcare Travel Assignments Work

AMN Healthcare is one of the country’s largest healthcare staffing companies. It places nurses and other healthcare professionals at hospitals and medical facilities throughout the United States.

AMN currently advertises thousands of travel registered nurse positions nationwide. Its travel nursing opportunities commonly involve short-term assignments, often lasting approximately eight to thirteen weeks or longer. AMN promotes these positions as offering competitive compensation, flexibility and assistance with expenses associated with travel assignments.

The company remains a significant participant in the healthcare staffing industry. AMN reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of approximately $673 million, including approximately $422 million from its Nurse and Allied Solutions segment. Travel nurse staffing revenue increased 10% compared with the same quarter in 2025.

What Are Workers Alleging?

The class action concerns allegations that healthcare workers accepted assignments based on agreed compensation packages and then had their compensation reduced before the assignment was completed.

A travel healthcare professional may make substantial commitments before beginning an assignment. These can include relocating, obtaining temporary housing, completing licensing requirements, arranging transportation and declining other job opportunities.

The lawsuit alleges that some workers were later presented with reduced compensation after they had already made these commitments.

The alleged reductions could involve:

  • Lower hourly wages;
  • Reduced overtime or callback rates;
  • Fewer guaranteed hours;
  • Changes to housing or meal stipends; or
  • A reduction in the worker’s overall compensation package.

The central issue is whether healthcare professionals were promised particular compensation for a defined assignment and then received less compensation before that assignment ended.

Why Mid-Assignment Pay Reductions Can Be Significant

A travel nurse who has already relocated may have limited practical options when faced with a pay reduction.

Temporary housing may already have been paid for. Travel expenses may already have been incurred. The worker may also have declined another assignment or resigned from an existing position.

As a result, a substantial reduction in compensation after an assignment begins can create significant financial losses.

The pending litigation seeks recovery for workers who allegedly experienced such reductions. The allegations have not yet been proven, and the defendants are entitled to contest the claims.

Who May Be Affected?

You may want to learn more if you:

Potentially affected workers may be located throughout the United States. The proposed class described in the litigation is not limited solely to workers residing in California.
