MedQ Data Breach Compromises Identities of 54k People. Featured

MedQ, Inc., a provider of imaging workflow software to medical practices across the country, recently announced it experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”) in its systems may have been accessed and encrypted.
What Happened?
The lawsuit alleges MedQ Inc.(“MedQ”) failed to implement reasonable and appropriate security measures to protect its’ patient data, despite being aware of a high risk of ransomware and other cyberattacks on the healthcare industry.
The breach was discovered on December 26, 2023. Upon investigation it was learned that unauthorized access was was gained to its servers used by the company’s software platform. Files were accessed and copied by the hackers between December 20, 2023 and December 26, 2023.
The breach resulted in cybercriminals stealing the Personal Identifiable Information (“PII”) and Personal Health Information (“PHI”) of 54,353 individuals.

- Driver’s License number
- Date of birth
- Health information
- Subscriber ID number
- Diagnoses

- Other treatment information,

MedQ, Inc. recently began mailing notices to individuals affected by the breach. According to he notice, MedQ is offering 12 months of identity theft and credit monitoring protection despite those affected now living with the lifetime threat of identity theft.
