What Happened in the Baylor Genetics Data Breach?

Baylor Miraca Genetics Laboratories, LLC, doing business as Baylor Genetics, has disclosed a cybersecurity incident involving sensitive personal and medical information belonging to patients and certain current and former employees.

According to Baylor Genetics, suspicious activity was identified on or around June 15, 2026. The company says an investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed portions of its network and certain data stored on the network between June 11 and June 17, 2026. Baylor Genetics completed its review of the potentially affected information on or about July 30, 2026 and began notifying affected individuals in August.

Baylor Genetics is a Houston-based clinical genetics laboratory that provides genetic testing and diagnostic services. Because the information maintained by a genetics laboratory can be highly sensitive, individuals receiving a breach notice may have concerns about the privacy and long-term security of their personal and medical information.

What Information May Have Been Involved?

The information involved varied by individual. Baylor Genetics has stated that information relating to affected patients may have included:

• Dates of birth
• Medical testing information
• Laboratory test results
• Health insurance information
• Social Security numbers for a limited subset of patients

For certain current and former employees, the information may have included Social Security numbers, government-issued identification numbers and financial account information.
