AnnieMac Data Breach Exposes Identities of 171k Consumers Featured
AnnieMac’s failure to adequately secure network according to FTC guidelines enabled data breach that exposed personal identifying information of over 171k consumers.
A class action lawsuit was recently filed against home mortgage lender AnnieMac after it revealed that its systems were breached during a cyberattack that took place in August, 2024. The lawsuit alleges that AnnieMac was negligent in its failure to adequately secure its network according to industry standard guidelines.
What Happened?
According to the Notice of Data Event posted on the Attorney General of Maine’s website, On August 23, 2024, AnnieMac became aware of suspicious activity on certain systems within its network. In response, AnnieMac secured the affected systems, confirmed the security of its broader network, and initiated an investigation into the nature and scope of the the event with the assistance from third-party forensic specialists.
The investigation determine that between August 21, 2024 and August 23,2024, an unknown actor gained access to systems on AnnieMac’s network and viewed and/or copied certain files from these systems. AnnieMac identified the affected files and conducted comprehensive review of the files to identify personal information, the individuals to whom it relates and address information to be used for notifying impacted individuals.
What Information was Stolen?
The investigation confirmed that files containing personal information were exfiltrated from AnnieMac’s network.
The information stolen during the breach includes –
- Name
- Social Security number
On November 14, 2024, AnnieMac began sending out Data Breach Notification letters to all individuals whose personal information was compromised by the breach.

AnnieMac is offering identity theft protection services for 12 months to individuals affected by the breach.
