MNGI Digestive Health Data Breach Exposes Identities of 765k Patients Featured

Lawsuit alleges MNGI Digestive Healths’ failure to secure its network according to federally mandated standards contributed to data breach.

A class action lawsuit investigation was launched after MNGI Digestive Health (MNGI) announced on July 15, 2024, that it was a victim of an August 2023 cyberattack that resulted in the theft of sensitive personal information belonging to 765,937 patients.

What Happened?

On August 25, 2023, MNGI discovered unauthorized activity within its network. In response, MNGI took steps to secure its servers, contacted law enforcement and engaged independent cybersecurity experts to assist with its investigation.

The investigation determined that unauthorized access to certain portions of its network occurred on August 20, 2023. MNGI completed a review of the affected data on June 7, 2024. The review revealed that sensitive personal and protected health information belonging to 765,937 patients was affected by incident.

What Information Was Stolen?

According to the data breach notice filed with the Attorney General of Maine, MNGIs’ investigation determined that the breached information varied depending upon the individual and that the following information was stolen –

  • name,
  • medical information,
  • health insurance information,
  • date of birth,
  • patent account numbers,
  • financial account information,
  • driver’s license or state ID numbers,
  • passport numbers,
  • payment card information,
  • usernames and associated passwords,
  • taxpayer ID numbers,
  • biometric data,
  • Social Security numbers.

On July 15, 2024 began mailing Notification Letters to affected individuals.

What is MNGI Doing To Protect My Identity?

According to the Breach Notices mailed to affected individuals, MNGI implemented measures to enhance the security of its digital environment in an effort to minimize the risk of a similar incident occurring in the future.
